There will be a presentation by Bob Wallace, a former Submariner and boat captain. Bob has had numerous marine adventures all over the globe including the making of 2 IMAX movies. In the late 90's he participated in the making of the IMAX movie "Endurance" in conjunction with WGBH in Boston. This movie is about one of the greatest survival stories of Earnest Shackleton and his crew on their ill fated trip to Antarctica in 1914 -1917. Bob's presentation will be about the making of this movie, traveling to South Georgia, South America and Antarctica including quite a few pictures of the process and area. Part of reenacting the survival story involved replicating the life boat "James Caird", which Shackleton and his crew modified to withstand the journey from Elephant Island to South Georgia, some 600+ miles. Bob, an experienced boat builder, led this effort for the film crew, having gained a lot of his boat building experience at Barlows Boat Yard in Pocasset.
